Project Lead the Way

We have started our second module of Project Lead the Way. Students are learning about energy conversions. We have already learned about energy through collisions in our first module not we are learning about how energy converted. We have built bikes from the VEX kits and compared them to the bikes that we have ridden. Next we will be observing other forms of energy.

Lots of Visitors

Our class learned about keeping our bodies healthy. A visitor taught us about our bodies. As a class we learned about what we should eat. We learned which foods we should put in our bodies and which ones we should not.
Our school had an assembly about our brains. Our brains are fragile and soft like jelly. The main idea of the assembly was your brains are important so take good care of them!
Some of us got to paint our big finger print posters.
We had a fire drill.
We wrote our opinions about whether school should have more PE time.
We did a paper to learn about dinosaurs.
The engineers from Qorvo came to our class on Friday. With the help of our engineers we did an experiment with marbles and paper ramps.
The table groups used charts to keep track of their homework. Some of the table groups earned Fun Friday by reaching their reading goals and turning in all of their homework.

Both sets of visitors commented on the great questions we asked and were impressed by our ideas!

Keeping up

Here's the news for this week.
We are studying about Lewis and Clark. We have learned that the pay were brave and curious. They also were great observers. We used our powers of observation to notice the details in our fingerprint. We will be turning our sketches into watercolor art next week.
As a class we read over 900,000 words this week. Our total for the year is getting very close to 9 million!

Update from Our Class

In math, we are learning about fractions.
We are doing a project about studying our hands and fingerprints.
In writing, we are writing our opinions about whether Tyler Armstrong, a 12-year old boy should or should not climb Mt. Everest.
Recently our school has added a preschool.
We are listening to a book about Lewis, Clark and Seaman the dog.
Mr. Shelley won the Crystal Apple Award for being a hard working custodian.
We are working on our reading goals to compete Mrs. P. Smith's class.
Our school is doing a fund raiser for the PTO.
We are working on Scholastic News.
If we turn in all of our homework and meet our reading goals, we earn Fun Friday. On Fun Friday we plan on using Makey Makey, Minecraft, Ollies or designing video games using Pixel Press Floors.
